Participation:

This is very important to your grade. Within the structure of social dancing there is an etiquette that must be followed: You must be polite to all of your partners, never correct a fellow student, never force your partner to move; and never touch your partner inappropriately. This is not a pick-up class. Consequences for this behavior will be at the discretion of the instructor. Each student must be responsible for the rotation that is put in place by the instructor.

SPRING DANCE SHOW

is a production show held in the main gym. It will be in April, 2009. It will last from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Do not wait to clear this date with either your other professors or you work situations. Not showing up can lower your grade dramatically. All of my classes will be performing one or more dances in a group format. The instructor must clear any students who would like to dance specific solos or entries. Any students who would like extra help can come to see me during my office hours. This is a free event for your friends and family to come to watch.

Other Policies and Information:

  1. Yellow cards will be signed only if attendance allows.
  2. Pink cards will not be signed except under extreme circumstances.
  3. Only enrolled students are allowed in the instructional area during class.
  4. No make-up days will be allowed under any circumstances.
  5. As a student, you are able to rent a locker and towel for the semester or entire year if you choose. ($10 for 1 semester or $15 for both Fall and Spring semesters) If you are interested in doing so, go to the cashiers in the Student Services Building, pay, bring the receipt back to the equipment room here at JC, and they will issue you a locker.
  6. We suggest that you get a locker because we are not responsible for backpacks left unattended.
  7. C/NC students must receive the equivalent of a "C" (73%) in order to receive credit for the class.

Safety Warnings:

Problems that could be sustained from taking a ballroom dance class would include general muscle soreness; arm and shoulder soreness, especially for the leaders. Toenails can be lifted if improper shoes are worn. There is no reason for any other type of injury when dancing within the guidelines set by the instructor.

Special Needs:

If you require any special needs, considerations, or accommodations, please tell the instructor prior to the beginnning of class. If special needs or considerations are warranted at any time during the semester, please notify the teacher immediately.

UNM Academic Dishonesty Policy:

Each student is expected to maintain the highest standards of honesty and integrity in academic and professional matters. The university and the instructor reserve the right to take disciplinary action, including dismissal, against any student who is found responsible for academic dishonesty. Any student who has been judged to have engaged in academic dishonesty in course work may receive a reduced or failing grade form the work in question and/or the course.

Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, dishonesty in quizzes, tests, or assignments; claiming credit for work not done or done by others; hindering the academic work of other students; and misrepresenting academic or professional qualifications within or outside the university. NOTE: Signing IN OR OUT for another student, no matter what the circumstance, IS considered academic dishonesty!
